and when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me
I love sunsets.
First is because they mark the end of the day, which is usually a good thing. This will be especially important when pupillage and work starts after graduation. I have a feeling I’ll not be able to see actual sunsets from the office but the fact that the day starts turning dark should provide some comfort. Though apparently, it won’t be much of a comfort if one has to work in the office till 2 or 3 in the morning. Shit.
Second is because they’re usually very pretty but that’s usually overseas, not so much in Singapore I think coz all our skyscapes are always flanked by tall buildings, be it HDB flats or the tall office buildings. But overseas, different coloured sunsets bear different meanings. If I recall correctly, I think a pink sunset could portent a snow storm or just snow falling on the night itself or the day after which was what happened in Montreal. And a purple sky meant something else. Even in traditional poetry and in maritime affairs, different coloured skies meant different waters in which ships had to ply through.
Third is because they somehow bring a sense of serenity. At least to me. I just feel loads happier when I get to see the sun set somehow.
And finally it’s because I can never ever ever wake up for the sunrise early enough. So I have to settle for sunsets. Unless of course there’s an ultimate requirement for early mornings e.g. super duper crazy early flights like those to the US that take off at insane early hours. Eugh. Oh yeah. But it’s always amazing to share a sunset in the company of friends.
